BCC Paddle Club

Everyone Welcome!

About:
Kayakers, SUP’s, and canoers are welcome to join Program Manager Brenda Wardaugh on the water for social paddles throughout the summer along the Lake Erie shores. Brenda's vision for this club is to bring together Members who share in this hobby by organizing group outings.

Please Take Note:

  • Paddling distances may vary each outing and will be discussed and adjusted based on the skill and comfort level of paddlers in attendance.
  • Members are required to provide their own equipment.
  • Children 12 years and younger will need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • There is no cost to attend.
  • As this activity will take place on the water and potentially in varying water conditions participation is at your own risk.
  • Please email Brenda to recieve Paddle Club updates or if you have questions
Safety Information
Below is a list of some safety equipment suggestions:
  • PFD: Your personal flotation device should fit snugly and always be on or easily accessible—and there’s never a kayak outing where you can forgo the PFD.
  • Whistle: Attach it to your PFD. One blast is for attention; three blasts is “help.” If you forget how many, just keep blasting away until a rescuer arrives.
  • Communication Device: If you’ll ever be out of whistle range of someone on shore, you need another way to call for help. If cell coverage is stellar everywhere, you can bring a cellphone in a waterproof case. Otherwise, you need a VHF radio.
  • Towline: in case someone can’t get to shore on their own. Heaving line, Almost every paddlecraft is required to have a buoyant heaving line at least 15m long.
  • Bail Bucket or pump: Handy in case of tip over or large wave resulting in on take of water.
  • Dry Bag: For personal items.
  • Flares: If you plan on paddling somewhere that’s more than 1.852km (one nautical mile) you need to carry 6 flares. Even if you’re exempt, think about where and when you paddle, and whether carrying flares could increase your safety in an emergency.
